In the Absence
In my art practice, I look at the landscape with a suspect eye, often as an intuitive investigator or conceptual anthropologist. I’m not representing the world through a lens that celebrates the landscape in its grandeur. Documenting clear cuts in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, I’m interested in revealing the way corporations use nature for profit and how these politics effect our environment. The text is hand-cut out of the photos, reflecting the act of extraction.
“We, in the absence of the sacred, become our own god.”
