Diaries & Journals > Reading History

Reading has always been a big part of my life. Compelled to read daily, I read the morning paper with coffee, novels on the bus, and bedtime reading aloud. My love of books drew me to work in libraries.

Collecting discarded library books and ephemera, I think about how they are read and then transformed by time into historical remnants. There is a shared history of many people having read the same book. Found phrases combined with images made of gouache, coffee and block prints suggest a narrative.
